Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a Program Support Technician to provide professional support to the Office of Veterinary Services. which administers all duties assigned to the State Veterinarian under the Comprehensive Animal Care laws (Chapter 65 of Title 3.2 of the Code of Virginia) along with responsibility for Virginia’s livestock and poultry disease control and/or eradication programs to promote the health of livestock and poultry in support of the animal agriculture industry, public health programs, and citizens of the Commonwealth. This position protects public safety by utilizing independent thinking and judgement to maintain a registry containing information on dogs that have been classified as dangerous by the applicable authorities, known as the Dangerous Dog Registry and provides general administrative support to the program including interacting with a wide variety of customers both internal and external to the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of general office management and practices, especially those related to project management, procedure development, and records management. Computer proficiency includes advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, and other devices and electronic communications, with exceptional skills working with automated database records and reporting. Ability to plan, set goals and objectives and achieve results; to be analytical and make sound decisions; to effectively work independently and in teams. Experience interacting with the public and providing customer service to work professionally with internal and external clients; to communicate orally and in writing. Strong written communication skills to a wide variety of audiences including drafting formal correspondence; capable of multitasking and prioritizing tasks; to provide detailed and thorough work products; and to demonstrate effective interpersonal and customer service skills. Intermediate skills with MS Excel to process data including billing and tracking program activities. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret policies and procedural instructions.

Additional Considerations

A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities to include knowledge of Business, Public Administration, Life Sciences, Analytical Sciences, Agriculture, or related field. Hiring Salary Range: $33,828 - $55,105 annually. Excellent State Benefits.
