The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is seeking a dedicated full-time, exempt Teen Programs Coordinator to lead our dynamic teen programs. In this role, you'll be responsible for the full lifecycle of our teen programming, from concept and development to implementation and evaluation.
The ideal candidate will coordinate and implement multi-part, semester-long programs for teens ages 13–18. You will supervise adjunct faculty, event technicians, and a team of four paid teen summer interns, as well as volunteers. Your responsibilities will also include overseeing daily operations, managing budgets, and preparing reports.
A key part of this position involves collaborating with instructors to develop program content and writing copy for the VMFA website, publications, and grant applications. You will work closely with the Director of Audience Development to recruit diverse participants from high schools and communities across Virginia.

Responsibilities:
Manages the Teen Tern program (paid summer internship program)
Coordinates teen schedules and develops daily tasks from selected summer projects.
Evaluates, organizes, and archives materials from past program years.
Oversees upcoming teen intern projects.
At close of program, conducts exit interviews and performance evaluations, drafts and disseminates internship exit letters. Provides oversight and feedback for teens.
Develops and Coordinates Museum Leaders in Training (M.LiT) 12-week course annually (to restart in FY27)
Plans and develops M.Lit program content with VMFA staff.
Facilitates processing of M.Lit adjunct faculty instructor, works with instructor to develop course syllabus and weekly schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of studio art disciplines, of art history, and of art and museum education theories and practices for teen audiences.
Ability to manage, engage, and instruct teens (ages 13 – 18 years).
Must be able to multi-task and problem solve quickly and work effectively in a fast paced environment
Excellent organizational, conceptual, program development and project management skills required. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences from a variety of background required.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings required.
Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Professional and with databases and surveys.
Additional Considerations
Experience working with and supervising instructors, volunteers, groups, and students.
Proven ability to develop and implement programs and events for youth, specifically ages 13-18.
Experience teaching in a classroom and/or museum setting.
Background in a field such as Art Education, Studio Art, or Art History.
Highly organized with strong computer skills, with a preference for experience using Formstack.
Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and a creative thinker.
