Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Taxation’s Office of Information Technology seeks a highly experienced and motivated AWS Cloud Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Linux systems administration and deep expertise in AWS cloud services. This role requires a strong understanding of infrastructure as code, automation, and DevOps practices to design, build, and maintain our cloud infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

Linux Systems Management: Design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure Linux-based systems.

AWS Infrastructure: Provision, configure, and manage core AWS services, including EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, Lambda, and RDS.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Use tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to automate the provisioning and management of cloud resources.

CI/CD Pipeline: Develop and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline to automate software delivery.

Scripting & Automation: Write scripts in Python and Bash to automate routine tasks, improve operational efficiency, and build custom solutions.

Monitoring & Logging: Implement and manage monitoring and logging solutions using AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and other tools to ensure high availability and performance.

Troubleshooting: Provide expert-level support and troubleshooting for infrastructure, application, and network issues.

Security: Enforce security best practices, implement security controls, and conduct regular security audits.



This position is located in our Central Office in downtown Richmond, Virginia. 

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. 

The anticipated hiring salary is 124,000, commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Strong knowledge and experience in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field

Working knowledge and professional experience as a Linux Administrator and/or Cloud Engineer

Proven, hands on experience with AWS Cloud Services

Expert-level scripting skills in Python and Bash

Experience with CI/CD tools and methodologies

Strong understanding of Networking Concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, routing) and network security

 

 

Additional Considerations

AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, AWS Certified Solutions Architect)

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
