Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Taxation’s Office of Compliance is seeking an Interstate Audit Senior to support the interstate tax audit program. This team conducts complex audits of large entities to ensure compliance with state taxes including, but not limited to, Retail Sales & Use, Corporate Income, Litter, and Withholding. The individual in this role will apply their auditing and accounting skills to support fellow staff members and the team's mission. In this role, you will be a critical part of reducing the tax gap for the Commonwealth of Virginia in a manner consistent with the agency’s mission, values, and culture. 



As the Interstate Audit Senior you will…

Foster a work environment that supports the agency’s strategic plan

Perform as a lead Interstate auditor, conducting as well as assist the interstate audit staff in both routine and complex audit assignments to ensure compliance and reduce the tax gap for the Commonwealth of Virginia consistent with the agency’s mission, values and culture

Provide both technical and administrative assistance to the audit staff by training, coaching, and assisting staff members with audit assignments

Provide administrative and technical assistance to the audit supervisor in the overall management of the audit program. Team members are remote from the central office and are located across the Unites States. Considerable overnight travel from the assigned base point is required




This position will be home-based/remote and can work from anywhere in the continental United States

Only current Virginia Tax employees will be considered for this role.

The anticipated hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of state sales & use, corporate income, and withholding tax laws, rules, regulations and policies and knowledge of federal tax laws and regulations

Considerable knowledge of effective principles and practices of management and supervision; including working knowledge of performance management techniques and practices for managing staff

Working knowledge and experience of accounting and audit principles and practices

Demonstrated ability to communicate concise and comprehensive information verbally and in writing, to customers, representatives, and staff

Must have progressive State Sales & Use Tax auditing experience

Technical ability with computers and software such as Microsoft products and programs

 

 

Additional Considerations

Advanced knowledge and/or experience in business, finance, statistics, auditing, accounting, taxes and other relevant areas or work and study

Experience conducting independent work in the field and/or in a home based environment
