Job Duties

The Science Museum of Virginia is seeking an enthusiastic, genuinely friendly part-time Guest Services Associate
to join our Guest Services team!

In this role, you must be comfortable interacting with strangers, making eye contact, while maintaining an upbeat personality and displaying a visible smile to serve our guests. You will be the front face of the museum, welcoming guests at the front desk, ensuring every visitor enjoys a smooth, engaging, and informative experience is your top priority. The individual stays up to date on all of the museum's exhibitions, programs, and events in order to share their knowledge with enthusiasm to guests of all ages.

  • Coordinate entry and guest check in.
  • Use Ticketure Ticketing System to sell exhibitions and DOME tickets.
  • Promote and sell the museum memberships.
  • Routinely check the museum galleries to ensure cleanliness.
  • Support and comply with the museum brand standards.
  • Serve as a resource for museum related information.
  • Ensures guests and staff are following all safety procedures outlined by the Governor and the Science Museum.
  • Monitor Guest Services email for general science museum and customer service questions .

Please note that this is a part-time position and hours will vary each week based on operations but no more than up to 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided. Interested candidates must apply at https://jobs.virginia.gov/

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have relevant work experience in a similar role and be proficient with GSuite applications. Previous experience in cash handling is required. Superb verbal and written communication skills and the ability to successfully communicate to large groups of people of all ages and backgrounds in a fast-paced educational environment.

The ability to be reliable, honest, setting priorities, and possess superb interpersonal skills are essential to the position. The candidate is a self-starter and works successfully with little supervision. The ability to follow written and verbal instructions, detail oriented, visual and hearing capabilities to respond to the needs of the public are key to the position. The candidate uses direct eye contact, smiling and creating a genuine connection with the staff and public. The candidate has the ability to effectively present information one-on-one or a group environment in an engaging, compelling and energetic manner. Must be available to regularly work evenings, weekends and holidays.
