Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. We are hiring an Education Credentialing Specialist to ensure all teachers, administrators, and educational staff hold appropriate, valid licenses, certifications, or endorsements required by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) or other relevant agencies. Collaborate with the HR department to support recruitment efforts by identifying candidates who meet the required licensure and credentialing standards. Assist in reviewing applicant credentials and ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accurate for consideration during the hiring process. This role ensures compliance with state and institutional requirements, maintains accurate credentialing records and provided excellent services to educators, administrators, and stakeholder throughout the entire process.

Essential skills:

  • Licensure and Credentialing Management - Ensure all teachers, administrators, and educational staff hold appropriate, valid licenses, certifications, or endorsements required by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) or other relevant agencies.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Oversight - Serve as the primary point of contact for all licensure-related inquiries from educational staff.
  • Recruitment Support and Staffing Coordination - Collaborate with the HR department to support recruitment efforts by identifying candidates who meet the required licensure and credentialing standards.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Oversight - Serve as the primary point of contact for all licensure-related inquiries from educational staff. Ensure compliance with the Virginia Department of Education’s licensure laws and regulations for educational personnel, including the use of any waivers or exceptions as needed.
  • Reporting and Documentation - Prepare and maintain detailed records and reports on licensure statuses, credentialing compliance, and staffing updates.
  • Professional Development Monitoring - Monitor and track the professional development requirements for licensed staff to ensure they meet Virginia’s continuing education standards for licensure renewal.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in document review and data entry
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with educators, stakeholders, administrators and regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Experience supporting HR department's recruitment efforts and staffing coordination by identifying candidates who meet the required licensure and credentialing standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of credentialing processes, licensee, and certification requirements in the education field
  • Demonstrates familiarity with state and institutional regulations related to teacher/educate certification and compliance
  • Education-related credentialing, licensure management, or human resources, preferably in a K-12 or educational setting.
  • Demonstrates the ability to track and maintain staff records pertaining to licensure expiration dates, upcoming renewal deadlines, applying for initial licensure, and endorsements

Additional Considerations

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Education Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a school or juvenile correctional facility
