Job Duties
The Office of Human Resources is seeking a Classification and Compensation Specialist to join our team! The incumbent will provide specialized class and comp support to hiring managers, HR staff, and operational staff agency wide on all aspects of compensation management and job classification. Performs research on related areas of assignment, designs and develops models, policies, practices, procedures for implementation of current and new Class & Comp systems. May serve as leader on large compensation and classification studies and on-site HR audits, interprets and applies applicable policies and regulations, and analyzes pay actions to identify trends and assess strengths and weaknesses in current systems/methods/training. Serves as subject matter expert in the development and delivery of related training.
This is an onsite position eligible for one telework day per week, subject to program needs and supervisor approval. Participation in telework and flexible scheduling aligns with VDH’s commitment to supporting operational excellence while promoting employee engagement and balance.
Minimum Qualifications
• Considerable knowledge of HR and compensation principles, policies, and procedures; especially in the areas of classification/compensation management, position assessment, policy interpretation, pay factor analysis, and FLSA.
• Demonstrated ability in providing efficient, effective, fact-based, and defensible consultation to all levels of agency management and employees; interpreting HR policies and offering alternatives to meet internal customer goals; conducting job analyses (i.e. position assessments) utilizing defined methodologies and pay factors; conducting trend and gap analyses; and communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
• Experience in data gathering; providing recommendations/consultation to managers; working with sensitive and/or politically ambiguous situations; and professionally dealing with diverse opinions.
