About the Agency
The Virginia Department of Fire Programs enhances public safety in the Commonwealth by providing supplemental funding, training, fire prevention and life safety education, along with statewide fire code enforcement. The organizational objective is to plan, establish, maintain, improve, and promote public safety in the Commonwealth.
About the Position
The Marketing & Communications Supervisor will supervise the creation of visual assets and written materials to support the agency’s mission. The duties of this position include but are not limited to:
•Support the Marketing and Communications Manager with maintaining the agency’s brand.
•Develop the social media strategy for the agency and manage the agency’s social media channels.
•Use video production to enhance the agency’s marketing and communication plan.
•Oversee the distribution of communications to the internal and external customers of VDFP.
•Serves as backup Agency spokesperson and back up FOIA officer and assists in the management of the FOIA request database.
•Assists with the coordination, execution, marketing, and procurement activities related to the agency’s annual memorial service.
•Support the Marketing and Communications Manager with responding to media inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications
•Knowledge of video production and public affairs/marketing.
•Experience working with Fire & EMS stakeholders.
•Experience working with State agencies, personnel and policies.
•Ability to leverage social media channels as a primary communication tool.
•Knowledge of the unique features of the following social media platforms: Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram.
•Knowledge of news writing principles including familiarity with Associated Press style.
•Familiarity with developing communications plans and/or strategic communications plans.
•Proficiency in using multimedia software and tools such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and other related software.
•A strong eye for visual composition.
•Excellent problem-solving and organization skills.
•Ability to express oneself through clear written and oral communications.
•Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
Additional Considerations
•Familiarity with using e-mail marketing systems.
