Job Duties

The Senior Deputy Clerk - Dispositions is the executive level manager responsible for overseeing the Clerk's Office Dispositions team. That team consists of eight deputy clerks and two part-time employees. This team is responsible for finalizing and releasing the Court's opinions and dispositional orders and processing all related matters. This position also works with the Court's publisher to ensure proper dissemination of the Court's opinions and orders.

The Senior Deputy Clerk also serves on the Clerk's Executive Committee, and works with the Chief Judge, the Clerk of Court, and the Court's Chief Staff Attorney to coordinate procedures to support the Judges and their chambers with the flow and dissemination of the Court's decisions. Some telework may be allowed at the discretion of the Clerk.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of this position include:

  • overseeing the review and finalization of opinions and dispositional orders for their release to litigants and others.
  • managing the day-to-day operations of the Dispositions team and monitoring the quantity and quality of each team member’s production.
  • monitoring reports to ensure that the Court's opinions and orders are released in a timely manner.
  • serving as the contact person for the publisher or other subscribers regarding any questions on opinions and preparing correspondence for the publisher and subscribers regarding any changes in the composition of the Court.
  • overseeing preparation of the Court's mandates and their dissemination to ensure their timely release.
  • performing other duties as assigned by the Clerk.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a four-year college degree or at least 10 years of appellate Court Clerk's office experience.
  • Applicants must have an in-depth understanding of appellate court functions and processes in addition to an understanding of lower court procedures and legal terminology.
  • Applicants must pay exceptional attention to detail and have excellent organizational skills and proofreading abilities.
  • Applicants must have experience dealing with a high volume of work under time constraints and can multitask.
  • Applicant’s work history should include experience managing subordinate employees and working well with those subordinates, other colleagues, and the public.
  • The best candidates will have a background of prompt and accurate completion of assignments, will be capable of prioritizing and managing numerous tasks, are reliable, organized, detail-oriented, and conscientious.
  • Applicants must possess an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and related computer programs.
