Job Duties

In the role, the selected candidate will:

  • Serve as a Member of the PRR Leadership Team to set strategic direction and oversee implementation of division priorities.
  • Oversee division efforts in completion and updates of state park master plans.
  • Coordinate efforts of the section with State Parks, Natural Heritage, and Real Property Divisions.
  • Manage the Scenic River Program and State Trails Program.
  • Supervise the work of the Park Planners in the division including oversight of division generated planning products and coordination with the State Parks Division.
  • Coordinate the creation of the Virginia Outdoors Plan with other division leaders to include planning district meetings and local planning efforts.
  • Coordinate Master Plans with the Design and Construction section to ensure progress and accuracy of planning needs.
  • Ensure the PRR Division meets its goals for Master Plan Development projects.
  • Provide technical assistance to local planning districts and local governments.
  • Work collaboratively across divisions and specialty areas.
  • Utilize current and predictive trends for outdoor recreations space planning.
  • Think critically and incorporate information from a variety of disciplines in decision-making.
  • Incorporate new knowledge into adaptive management.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with supervisory skills and project management involving recreation amenity development within a conservation environment.
  • Knowledge of planning, GIS, master plan development, scenic analysis, and conservation techniques.
  • Knowledge of scenic, natural, cultural, and physical resources.
  • Experience developing and updating master plans.
  • Knowledge of recreational park planning.
  • Knowledge of planning and scenic viewshed principles.
  • Knowledge of the use and application of Geographic Information Systems.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite.
  • Skill in technical writing, review, and editing.
  • Experience producing technical reports and papers.
