Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a Trades Technician III professional to maintain the Warrenton Regional Animal Health Lab located at 272 Academy Hill Road Warrenton, VA 20186. The successful candidate will have experience in multiple trades and will perform routine preventative maintenance of building systems, maintain grounds, perform janitorial duties, and assist in the maintenance and/or repair of facility equipment. Work tasks will include but are not limited to changing HVAC filters, checking fan belts, replacing light bulbs, inspecting safety equipment (extinguishers, eye wash, AED, and safety showers) and minor repairs. Additional duties include procuring and overseeing the delivery of goods and services provided by private contractors and vendors. The goal of this position is to ensure the structure is safe, that building equipment and systems are functioning properly, that the facility is clean and orderly, and operational downtime is not disrupted.
Minimum Qualifications
Working knowledge in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting practices; and in the use of related equipment and tools as well as demonstrated application of the proper safety techniques to be observed in general maintenance operations. Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software applications for work processing, spreadsheets, internet, maintenance software (BAS, CMMS, and etc.) and email. Basic mathematical and organizational skills for timekeeping and for reconciling a credit card statement with purchase orders and receipts. The ability to learn and manage building control systems; to follow both written and verbal instructions; and communicate with a diverse population; to prioritize work and work with minimal supervision; to provide exceptional customer service; and to learn the electronic ordering procedures (eVA). Experience related to HVAC equipment and controls systems including preventative maintenance; general building maintenance, repair and building controls; minor electrical repairs such as lighting ballast, fuses, fixtures and bulbs; minor plumbing repairs; basic custodial functions and grounds maintenance. The ability to perform manual labor and other related physical demands; lift and move heavy objects; operate equipment; climb ladders; and work from heights. A valid Virginia Driver’s License and the ability to work flexible hours as needed on weekends/holidays. H.S. Diploma/GED required.
Additional Considerations
Current/recent related experience in facility maintenance and construction. Journeyman level experience a plus. An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for this education and experience
