**This position has a hybrid work schedule with three days/week working in the office in downtown Richmond, VA.

The Finance & Administration unit at the Department of Accounts (DOA) is seeking a qualified individual for a Senior Accountant position.

DOA’s mission is to provide a uniform system of accounting, financial reporting, and internal control adequate to protect and account for the Commonwealth’s financial resources, while supporting and enhancing the recognition of Virginia as the best managed state in the union.

Job Duties

To ensure that DOA funds and fiscal service bureau agency funds and associated transactions are accounted for properly, accurately and timely. This encompasses the review of disbursements for propriety, overseeing timely deposits, and the reconciliation of accounting data. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial accounting data and to ensure compliance with relevant Federal and State law and policy, while embracing the Department of Accounts’ Code of Ethics and internal control best practices. Work shall be completed in a manner that complies with DOA’s Core Competencies as outlined in DOA policy 307- Performance Management.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience working with automated financial accounting systems.
Experience with following established accounting policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), particularly as they relate to the preparation of reports.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, and Access).
Familiarity with spreadsheet and database applications, including Excel.
Experience with General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, reconciliations, and other financial analysis.
Strong organizational; process improvement; analytical; and oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to perform complex analysis of a variety of financial data and prepare written documentation to support findings; research and resolve financial issues; communicate effectively with internal staff and external stakeholders; understand, develop, and apply policies and procedures; and collect, maintain, and secure sensitive data.

Additional Considerations

Professional experience or education in Accounting or a related field.
Experience working with an automated financial accounting system.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
