Central State Hospital (CSH), a State of Virginia mental health hospital located near Petersburg, VA, is recruiting for a full-time Security Captain to provide for the oversight of Public Safety Officers on the Petersburg Campus, and to provide an efficient and effective means of reducing crimes and safety hazards through education , patrol , investigations, recovery of property and fire prevention.
Job Duties Include:
- Make rounds on a daily basis ensuring that staff are in compliance with
Maximum Security Unit and Hospital policy and procedure.
- Ensure proper security coverage for their assigned areas
- Maintains cooperative working relationship with supervisors, peers, &
patients, is self motivated and works productively 90% of the time.
- Expresses ideas verbally or in writing as required.
- Attendance & punctuality supports job performance.
- Ensures that overtime is properly justified and schedules are adjusted as
needed.
- Follows established safety policies at all times.
- Participates with supervisor in solving problems in the work environment.
- Ensure that all instructions given by supervisor are carried out in a timely
manner.
- Review incident reports to ensure that assigned staff are completing them
correctly.
- Ensure that an email is sent to the other Captains and Security Director for
all security and safety issues.
- Ensure staffing schedule is submitted in a timely manner ensuring
adequate shift coverage.
- Other duties assigned by supervisor and position description
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Virginia Driver's License
- Previous security experience
- Mental Health Experience
- Supervisory Experience
- Experience Training others to perform Tasks
Additional Considerations
- DCJS Unarmed Security Officer Certification or eligible to receive within 3 months of
employment
