Job Duties
The Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute (NVMHI) is a 134-bed state psychiatric hospital located in Northern Virginia, a suburb conveniently located near several public transportation routes and near Washington, DC. We are seeking a licensed occupational therapist to join our dynamic team that services adults 18 to 64 years of age who have serious mental illness, intellectual/developmental deficits, physical health limitations and who have experienced trauma.
In this role, staff will clinically assess both psychosocial and physical dysfunction and implement occupational therapy interventions accordingly. Staff will complete initial psychosocial rehabilitation evaluations and consultative evaluations of basic and advanced living skills, durable medical equipment needs or for individuals identified as a falls risk. Staff will design and lead engaging occupation-based group interventions using a multimodal approach that build daily living skills, foster hope and recovery, and assist individuals in returning to his/her highest level of functioning to be successful in the community. As a key member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team, you'll provide valuable input on treatment plans and provide information regarding the individuals’ response to occupational therapy and psychosocial rehab department treatment interventions.
Staff will complete all required documentation (assessments, group notes, progress notes, and treatment plan documentation) in an electronic health record. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to, participating in special events, engaging in departmental and hospital wide initiatives, and utilizing recovery and behavior management techniques with the individual’s receiving services at NVMHI.
Minimum Qualifications
A degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy.
National registration by National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapists and licensure from Virginia State Board of Medicine to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Ability to operate a state vehicle. A valid driver's license is required for this position and must remain in good standing throughout employment.
Demonstrated work experience to include internships working with individuals with various types of mental health and physical health conditions.
Additional Considerations
Demonstrated experience in an inpatient mental health setting strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience leading evidence based treatment groups strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience in conducting evaluations addressing psychosocial and physical health needs and applying appropriate OT interventions.
