Serving as chief clinician in a health district responsible for formal supervision of other Physicians, pharmacy operations, clinical social workers, certified nurse practitioners, and others as designated, by assigning, scheduling, reviewing, and formally evaluating their work. Also provides direct care by performing examinations, diagnoses, treats, counsels and prescribes treatments for patients and makes referrals as needed to other medical and clinical specialists. Work requires licensure by the Virginia Board of Medicine.
VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year's seasonal influenza vaccination.

Minimum Qualifications
• Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public health and clinical preventive medicine
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Skilled in use of automation for data collection and analysis and in presentations and teaching
• Ability to effectively work independently and as a member of a team, work with the media, and cope with change in the workplace
• Knowledge of Communicable Disease Investigation and surveillance activates
• Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of public health and clinical preventive medicine
• Ability to examine, diagnose and effectively treat a variety of patients and to coordinate work and maintain strong relationships with the professional and non-professional medical community
• Experience in managing medical professionals and programs, preferably public health
Additional Considerations
• Board certification/eligibility in preventive medicine or equivalent combination of training and experience
