The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a Customer Service Center Assistant Manager for our Pulaski Customer Service Center. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to make a real impact by leading a team that provides essential motor vehicle and driver services to Virginia's citizens.
As an Assistant Manager, you will play a key leadership role in supporting daily operations, supervising staff, and ensuring excellent customer service across all DMV programs—including driver licensing, vehicle registration, dealer services, and tax collection. You will assist the Customer Service Center Manager in coordinating programs, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with policies, regulations, and the Virginia Motor Vehicle Code. In the Manager’s absence, you’ll step in to oversee the center’s full operations.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise, coach, and support customer service staff to achieve performance goals and deliver quality service.

Assist with human resource functions, facility operations, and financial management within the customer service center.

Oversee compliance with DMV policies, procedures, and state and federal laws.

Ensure the safety and security of staff, customers, and DMV assets.

Evaluate workflows and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.

Serve as acting manager in the absence of the Customer Service Center Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of DMV policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, including performance evaluation, conflict resolution, and staff development.
- Ability to analyze workflows, identify inefficiencies, and implement operational improvements.
- Proficiency in customer service principles, ensuring professionalism and accuracy in interactions.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with staff, customers, and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address complex issues and ensure compliance.
Additional Considerations
- Advanced knowledge of project management principles and techniques.
- Familiarity with legislative and regulatory changes impacting DMV operations.
- Experience in developing training programs and fostering professional growth.
- The Assistant Manager must be 21 years of age to administer road examinations.
