School Programs Overview
At the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, we work to make connections between the past and future. In the School Programs Team, our focus in on K12 audiences visiting on field trips, going to classrooms for outreach programs, or meeting with them in a virtual classroom. We facilitate engaging programs and activities stations for the student audience. Our goals are to engage with students through dialogue and critical thinking, creating avenues for growth in historical thinking skills and empathy.
Job Duties
To be considered as an ideal candidate, applicants must have excellent customer service and communication skills. Candidates should enjoy listening to children as they facilitate a conversation with students on programs. They must be flexible, exhibit excellent troubleshooting skills, and demonstrate a willingness to do what it takes to get a job done. A working knowledge of best practices in interactive and conversation-based student programming is a must. Candidates must have the ability to work well independently and collaboratively with a small team. Due to the nature of this position, they also should be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of or interest in facilitating interactive and conversation-based student programming
Ability to learn and apply new information in a dynamic environment
Knowledge of or interest in how history relates to today
Experience working with a diverse population of children
Excellent active listening, oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated customer service skills and experience
Additional Considerations
Experience working with school-age children is desired but not required.
High school diploma or equivalent.
