Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is currently seeking a qualified candidate to become our Microsoft Power Platform Developer & Data Analyst!

This position designs, develops, and maintains business applications, automated workflows, and data analytics solutions using Microsoft Power Platform tools to support VDEM’s mission.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Administer and maintain Power Platform environments (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse).
- Develop custom apps, workflows, and integrations with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, SQL, and APIs.
- Create dashboards and reports in Power BI; perform data analysis using DAX and Power Query.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
- Maintain documentation, monitor performance, and recommend enhancements.
- Provide training and user support for Power Platform tools.

This position is eligible for one day of telework per week. Due to the public-facing nature of the role, regular onsite presence is required.

All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, and natural or man-made disasters/events. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in this Employee Work Profile/job description.

Minimum Qualifications

- Proficiency in Microsoft Power Apps (Canvas and Model-driven), Power Automate, and Power BI.
- Strong understanding of Power Fx (Power Apps formula language) and DAX (Power BI).
- Experience with SQL and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Azure SQL).
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 services, SharePoint, and Teams integration.
- Experience with APIs, connectors, and data integration tools.
- Ability to analyze business processes and translate them into technical solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills for working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to create training materials and deliver end-user support.

Additional Considerations

Microsoft certifications such as:
- Power Platform App Maker Associate (PL-100)
- Power Platform Developer Associate (PL-400)
- Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300)
- Experience with Tableau or other BI tools (as a secondary skillset).
- Experience in public sector or emergency management environments is a plus.
