Job Duties
The Science Museum is currently seeking genuinely friendly or over-enthusiastic individuals with energetic and hospitality-focused personalities to join our Guest Operations team. The Museum is looking for individuals who are comfortable interacting with strangers, making eye contact, all while maintaining an upbeat personality and displaying a visible smile to serve our guests.
In this dynamic position, you will be the face of the museum, welcoming guests at the front desk, Gift Shop and Concessions area. Ensuring every visitor enjoys a smooth, engaging, and informative experience is your top priority. Staying up to date on all of our exhibitions, programs, and events in order to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with guests of all ages.
Please note that this is a part-time position and hours will vary each week based on operations but no more than up to 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided. Interested candidates must apply at https://jobs.virginia.gov/
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings energy, friendliness, and a strong passion for delivering excellent guest experiences. Applicants must have at least one year of experience in customer service, retail, hospitality, or another guest-facing role and be comfortable actively engaging with strangers using a visible smile, eye contact, and clear, friendly communication. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, along with the ability to handle cash, give change, and operate point-of-sale systems. Candidates should be able to work confidently both independently and as part of a collaborative, team-oriented environment. An interest in science, museums, or education is a plus. Availability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings is required.
