Job Duties

The main function of the position manages the State WIC Office of the Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC), reporting to the Director of the Division of Nutrition & Food Programs. The Virginia WIC Program, with a budget of about $110 million, serves women who are
breastfeeding, pregnant or have just given birth; infants less than one year-old and children less than five years-old. The purpose of the program is to prevent permanent adverse health outcomes by
providing targeted nutritional support and education during pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy and
early childhood to low-income women, infants and children. The program currently serves about
150,000 participants enrolled at clinics which are located in 35 health districts throughout Virginia.

Minimum Qualifications

-Extensive knowledge of the WIC Program and its relationship to maternal and child health, behavior change and other major health programs
- Knowledge and experience in administrative and business practices, programmatic and operational controls, personnel management and budgetary controls
- Ability to apply knowledge and skills in program evaluation, analysis and strategic planning
- Skills and experience in leadership, interpersonal communications and public speaking, working with boards, committees, hospitals, local, federal and state agencies

In accordance with 7CFR246.3(e)(3), The State WIC Nutrition Coordinator shall -

(i) Hold a Master's degree with emphasis in food and nutrition, community nutrition, public health nutrition, nutrition
education, human nutrition, nutrition science or equivalent and have at least two years responsible experience as a
nutritionist in education, social service, maternal and child health, public health, nutrition, or dietetics; or

(ii) Be registered or eligible for registration with the American Dietetic Association and have at least two years of
experience

Additional Considerations

• Health Care Administration experience preferred
• Progressively responsible administrative and managerial experience in a governmental/quasi-governmental organization or agency
- Knowledge of public health principles and practices, health education and behavioral
theories, public health program management practices and procedures and human resource management.
- Knowledge of current science & practice of nutrition in public health including dietary
assessment techniques, appropriate interviewing/counseling for effecting behavior change, ethics, confidentiality and patient care
