Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center; named for two Medal of Honor recipients – Colonel Van Barfoot and Colonel Carl Sitter – provides the gold standard in quality care for Virginia’s Veterans. This single-level facility features 200 single-occupancy rooms across four nursing units: two 60-bed skilled nursing care units, one 40-bed skilled nursing care unit and one 40-bed secure Alzheimer’s dementia unit.
Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center is seeking a Cook. Working hours for this position will be 11:45 AM - 8:15 PM and will include every other weekend.
Primary Job Duties Include:
• Prepare and serve food and meals in accordance with planned menus, diet plans, recipes, proper use of portion control, temperature procedures, and facility policies
• Review menus prior to tray line operation.
• Review over produced foods and utilizes as alternates.
• Assist in checking trays for menu and diet preferences and accuracy.
• Ensure proper storage of foods and supplies.
• Assist the Director of Nutrition Services and/or Nutrition Supervisors in directing the activities of Nutrition employees.
• Direct and assist in cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, floors, dishes, and utensils; follows all safety, infection control, and sanitation guidelines; completes cleaning assignments.
• Attend and participates in training and in-service education; assists in departmental orientation and training of other staff.
• Assist in promoting positive relationships with residents, such as the Adopt a Veteran Program, family members, visitors, and co-workers.
• Perform other duties that may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent Required.
• 1 Year Prior Experience in a Kitchen/Culinary Setting Required.
• Knowledge of food service operations.
• Ability to to read, write, and communicate effectively with others, including staff members and residents.
• Possess the ability ability to carry-out the duties of the position with reasonable accommodations.
• Ability to work overtime as needed to support the business/facility.
Additional Considerations
• Three years' experience working in institutional food preparation or related field and experience working in skilled-nursing facilities also preferred.
