Job Duties
SWVMHI in Marion, VA is recruiting for an Agency Only Transportation CNA position to join its talented and dedicated Nursing Service Team.
Position Hours: Variable - Primarily 6:30 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. Monday - Friday, but may vary depending on needs with 8 hours of committed overtime per 4 week schedule
Shift Differentials and Weekend/Holiday Supplements Available
Transportation Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) serve as drivers and escorts to provide safe transport and accountability of individuals served while on trips for consults, diagnostic testing, discharge destinations, and other purposes as directed. When not on trips or performing related duties, Transportation CNAs work on inpatient units.
Transportation CNAs assist nurses by:
* Providing quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team
* Maintaining accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment
* Creating healthy interpersonal interactions on adult acute admission units, geriatric unit, and
extended rehabilitation service unit/wards
* Observing and reporting feedback regarding interventions, treatments, behaviors, physical
and emotional well-being, and other situations
* Documenting and communicating
* Using specialized training for promoting mental wellness recovery
* Orienting and training skills of other direct care givers relating to:
* Transportation of Individuals
* Use of facility vehicles
* Documentation relating to trips
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required to successfully perform the work:
• Must have and maintain a current driver’s license in good standing
• Computer skills; at least basic knowledge and able to use GPS for directions.
• Ability to observe and describe observations orally, in writing, and electronically
• Ability to float to different units and assume responsibility for assignments using self-initiative
and time management
• Perform repetitious walking and/or standing, bending, lifting and reaching overhead to
position, restrain/transfer/transport and/or escort individuals, and provide assistance with
activities of daily living
• Ability to work overtime in a staffing emergency
• Maintain CNA (Certified Nursing Aide) registration in good standing with the VA State Board of
Nursing
• Basic knowledge of human behavior, age-specific needs, and personality development
• Knowledge of basic treatment measures to promote mental health appropriate to the adult,
developmentally disabled or impaired populations.
• Vision and hearing adequate to recognize and respond to hazardous situations and ensure
safety of people at facility.
• Ability to work effectively with staff in a team approach
• Appropriately intervene in crisis or problem situations.
• Perform repetitious walking and/or standing, bending, lifting, and reaching overhead to
position, restrain/transfer/transport and/or escort clients, and provide assistance with activities
of daily living
• Successful completion of TO (Therapeutic Options) Training and CPR.
• Ability to perform infection prevention and control practices and appropriately apply standards
in daily activities.
• Ability to work in a secure and locked environment with individuals who are experiencing acute
symptoms on mental illness and/or additional forensic/legal involvement.
This position provides transportation in addition to direct care as a CNA.
Minimum Qualifications
* State Board License/Certification to practice as a Nursing Aide in the State of Virginia
* Valid Driver's License
* Must be currently employed by DBHDS

* High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
