Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Aviation is seeking a civil engineer to conduct airport capital improvement, security, facility, maintenance, obstruction, and other airport field inspections. Provide detailed engineering advice, assistance, and management of assigned capital improvement projects to ensure compliance with FAA, state and federal laws, regulations, and policies for public-use airports. Respond to inquiries from airport sponsors, consultants, and government agencies regarding program criteria. Review and approve construction plans, specifications, and engineering documents. Attend ACIP, predesign, preconstruction, periodic on-site and final inspections of DOAV-funded projects. Process grant agreements, amendments and requests for reimbursement. Maintain assigned airport’s projects in DOAV’s online funding portal Airport System Management (ASM) and monitor project progress. Build relationships with airport staff, sponsors, and consultants. The incumbent of this position is required to travel in state.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience conducting on-site construction field inspections. Knowledge of construction techniques and methods. Experience in conducting field surveys. Project management experience to include managing grant-in-aid programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).

Additional Considerations

B.S. in Civil Engineering or equivalent education and experience. Airport facility experience. Private pilot’s license.
