Job Duties

Virginia Military Institute is excited to announce the open position at the Physical Plant. We are looking for the best candidate to take over the Supervisor for FMTI. Looking for someone with strong leadership skills and customer service experience.

Job Duties:

• Supervises the work of a multi-skilled workforce, i.e. plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and painters that are responsible for maintenance and upkeep of assigned facilities, special projects, preventative maintenance, and events.
• Establishes work schedules, materials, and work force for various work plans: long-range, mid-range, and short-term.
• Being on call, every third week as part of a team, with the ability to respond in a reasonable time and identified as essential personnel for responding to emergencies
and/or natural disasters.
• Works weekends and evenings to support VMI functions and emergencies.
• Conducts inspections and/or perform walk-throughs with building coordinators.
• Responds to customer requests in a courteous and professional manner. Resolve internal complaints and problems.
• Works well independently and with others in a team environment and the general public.
• Ensures that adequate supplies and equipment are maintained.
• Maintains accurate record keeping including data in the work order system for accurate accountability.
• Properly completing and maintaining timesheets, leave requests, evaluations, and other mandatory documents.
• Performing other duties as assigned by management such as event preparation and support, inclement weather support, and special project teams
• Ensures all personnel adhere to all policies governing the conduct, wearing of the uniform, leave, proper operation of vehicles, etc
• Ensures that all employees complete all assigned training programs.
• Ensures personnel are properly equipped and wear appropriate personnel protective equipment (PPE) when performing daily tasks.
• Works with Deputy Director of Facilities Management for Physical Plant and Facilities to develop the biennial budget for the team, ensuring all requirements and equipment needed are identified.

Minimum Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, communication skills
• Problem solving skills and adaptability
• Successful candidate must have experience and knowledge in plumbing, electrical and carpentry work.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license with clean driving record required
• Ability to work from heights and operate a power lift

Additional Considerations

• Extensive experience in the maintenance field
• Trades License and/or certifications
• Proficiency in computer software and record keeping procedures.
• Use of a computer maintenance database (CMMS)
• Bucket Truck, JLG, scissor lift experience
