The position will assist with preparing quarterly and annual required financial reports for federal grants as necessary in a timely manner. This position assists with managing the University’s cash position and investment functions, to include Federal drawdowns as needed. Assist with maintaining oversight, compliance, recording and reporting of the University’s endowment funds and banking transactions. Assist with preparing internal performance reports. Ensure that transactions are processed to record increased and withdrawals to endowment pool. Assist with the recording of realized and unrealized gains and losses. The position assists with the daily reviews, verifies and processing of local and emergency checks, and wire transfers to include the printing and processing of local fund and emergency check requests. Provide quarterly reports with supporting documentation as assigned. Assist with annual NACUBO survey. Perform duties as assigned to include, recording and reporting of gift financial transactions in conformity with GAAP.
Assist with preparing and recording monthly foundation billings as needed. Assist with the preparation of special reports on scholarships, gifts, and endowment investment and spending activity. Assist with monitoring and managing the University’s cash flow position for Federal Grants and Contracts and Financial Aid programs. Complete and/or assist with the completion of fiscal year-end financial reports (DOA attachments). Serves as acting Supervisor during the absence of the Cash and Investment Manager. Lastly the position assists the Cash and Investment Office/Manager in providing and delivering treasury management services to University faculty, staff, students and vendor to include issuing local checks, emergency checks, wire transfers and stop payment orders.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, with emphasis on colleges and
universities.
Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing in conjunction with working in a team
environment.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex fiscal policies and procedures.
Knowledge of banking practices related to cash management is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt accounting principles and methods to a variety of agency or institution fiscal needs.
Demonstrated ability to assemble, analyze and prepare reports and statements covering complex financial data.
Working knowledge of automated accounting systems and computer applications as a resource tool.
Experience working with and in an automated accounting system, preferably SCT Banner is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to prepare complex financial reports and statements.
Demonstrated experience and proficiency using a PC and the Microsoft suite of products, including Excel, and Word.
Preference will be given to candidates who have a BS degree in accounting or have taken the required courses for such a degree. Candidates with the equivalent experience and course work will also be considered.
Additional Considerations
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major studies in accounting or business administration/management is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with the Banner and Cardinal accounting systems is a plus.
At least two (2) years of experience working in a fast-paced higher education business environment is a plus.
Some supervisory experience is a plus.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of database and other software programs, i.e., Excel, Access, and Word.
Ability to work independently and solve problems within the scope of duties.
At least three (3) years of experience working in a fast-paced higher education business environment.
Strong analytical/problem solving, organizational, data entry, and customer service skills.
Ability to sort, prepare/batch, file, and maintain financial records, reports and spreadsheets.
