Job Duties
The Senior Custodian performs a full range of custodial duties to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming museum facilities, including restrooms, galleries, offices, classrooms, and public areas. This position serves as a lead worker by providing daily direction to custodial staff, ensuring adherence to established cleaning standards, completing inspections, coordinating assignments, and supporting the Custodial Supervisor in maintaining consistent service quality. Responsibilities include daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks; restocking supplies; initiating and closing work requests in the Asset Essentials system; assisting with special events and room setups; responding to emergencies and adverse weather; and upholding customer‑service standards in all interactions. The role is designated essential and supports overall Facilities operations as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of custodial methods, cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety practices.
Skill in operating manual and powered cleaning equipment.
Ability to read and follow instructions, complete checklists, and perform varied cleaning tasks.
Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and perform manual labor.
Ability to provide direction to staff and support consistent work quality.
Commitment to customer service and the Housekeeping Model.
Strong communication skills, to include oral, written and active listening.
Additional Considerations
Experience mentoring and training staff to meet JYF custodial standards.
Knowledge of Asset Essentials
