Job Duties

This position will provide support to the Directors of Investigation and will report directly to the Director of Investigations-Field Operations. Responsibilities include the supervision of investigative staff and their investigations of assigned complaints.

The successful applicant will be able to provide direction to investigative staff in the completion of their assignments in order to ensure complaints are processed in an efficient and effective manner in accordance with state laws, board regulations, and division and departmental policies and procedures.

This position is also responsible for: 1) investigation of cases; 2) preparation and review of reports, memorandums, and official correspondence; 3) consideration and pursuit of appropriate resolution; 4) collaboration with division staff to achieve efficient resolution of complaints, consistent with the Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation’s (the Department) mission; and 5) identifying, developing, and implementing relevant training.

This individual will work from a home office and will be provided with office equipment, and a state vehicle or business mileage reimbursement as cost-beneficial to the Commonwealth. It is required that the successful candidate will either reside in or maintain their primary residence within a 45-mile radius of the Northern Virginia region’s borders within the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Northern Virginia region encompasses the following counties/cities: Fauquier, Warren, Winchester, Frederick, Clarke, Loudoun, Falls Church, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Prince William, Manassas, Manassas Park, Shenandoah, Page, and Rappahannock. The position will be primarily responsible for any complaints from those areas. This individual will also provide investigative assistance to other investigative regions, as designated by the Department, as needed. In order to perform the duties of the position, overnight statewide travel may be necessary.

The upper end of the advertised hiring range will be reserved for highly qualified candidates that live within the following localities: Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William, and Loudoun counties, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park.

This position is “Exempt” and is compensated accordingly.

This Department’s main office is in Henrico County, Virginia; however, this is a telework position. Occasional overnight statewide travel may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

• Considerable experience effectively coaching others, with a preference for experience managing and supervising others
• Demonstrated ability and experience working independently with limited supervision
• Possess strong knowledge of administrative law, investigative practices and principles, regulatory processes, and court systems
• Possess strong oral and written communication skills and proofreading skills
• Possess excellent organizational skills to include the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks
• Significant experience completing investigations as demonstrated by prior work experience or professional experience in conducting thorough research and applying analytical skills
• Considerable experience comparing, and appropriately applying, information collected to complex regulations and statutes and recommending appropriate outcomes based upon internal procedures
• Demonstrated experience in accurately documenting findings in accordance with policy and procedure
• Demonstrated experience providing instruction and teaching necessary work skills to others that will allow them to effectively perform their job responsibilities
• Possess commitment to customer service with the ability to effectively and appropriately communicate with the general public, Department staff, and members of other departments and agencies
• Considerable experience effectively utilizing office productivity software, e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, and portable document formatting products with a preference for intradepartmental software programs and databases
• Ability to perform duties of the position that may require extensive overnight statewide travel as necessary on an occasional basis
