Southeastern Virginia Training Center is seeking an Active Treatment Facilitator to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through vocational training, life skills development, and community engagement programs.
This position works as part of the Personal Support Team to ensure individuals receive meaningful, person-centered services that promote independence and participation in daily activities.

At Southeastern Virginia Training Center (SEVTC) we serve citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are an intermediate care facility operated by the Department of Behavioral health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) where we support individuals in state-of-the-art homes with accommodations unique to their specific needs. All new hires must successfully complete the facility’s Pre-service training program to include Person Centered Approach techniques, CPR/First Aid Certification, TOVA, medication administration, nutritional management and physical/behavioral management, for continued employment. Training in behavior management and crisis intervention is available. (Preservice training class is 10 days long 8:00 am to 4:30 pm).
This position is designated as essential personnel, which may require working during emergencies or facility needs. Employees may also be required to work varied shifts or overtime as necessary
About the Role
- Facilitate vocational and training activities that support individuals’ Individual Support Plans (ISP).
- Implement behavior support and person-centered plans.
- Supervise individuals participating in work and skill-building programs.
- Document attendance, program data, and individual progress accurately.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with support staff and interdisciplinary teams.
- Adapt training and work assignments to match individual’s strengths, needs, and interests.
- Support programs such as Leisure, Basic Food Preparation Art Exploration, Media and Gardening activities.
- Maintain program equipment and supplies and ensure activities are implemented appropriately.
- Transport individuals to programs, outings, and appointments using state vehicles.
- Ensure individuals are properly secured during transportation.
Skills and experience required:
We seek a candidate with experience working knowledge of vocational training for individuals with intellectual disabilities. We also seek the following:
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to summarize data and give input/feedback for reporting writing.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Ability to maintain data, attendance, and uses the computer to correspond pertinent information to supervisors, and resource staff.
- Ability to transport individuals in wheelchairs to and from specific areas and safely secure individuals on vehicles.
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with inclusion and therapeutic programs for individuals with disabilities.
- Experience with providing leisure education.
- Experience with crisis management
