Job Duties

The attorney in this position will provide both advice and litigation services to Commonwealth’s natural resources agencies, board and authorities. As a member of the Section, the attorney will provide a wide range of legal services to these agencies, both directly and in conjunction with the Section Chief and other Assistant Attorneys General. This position will serve in a general capacity, providing legal advice in the areas of litigation and regulatory appeals. Duties of this position include handling litigation and reviewing environmental-related legislation and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Candidates should be able to communicate well with all levels of staff and management; must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well within a team of professionals.
  
• The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, including first and second chair trial work in both state and federal courts.
  
• All candidates must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.

Additional Considerations

Familiarity in the following areas is preferred: Environmental matters before administrative and judicial forums; all aspects of litigation, including identifying issues, analyzing positions, conducting discovery, working with retained experts and consultants, witness examination and opening and closing statements at hearings, and preparation of briefs and other written legal pleadings.
