Job Duties

This position prioritizes gang management, including but not limited to providing support and guidance to facility Investigators, Intelligence Officers and Gang Specialists, including those Gang Specialists at Probation Districts, as it relates to gangs and security threat group identification and management. It provides for the collection, evaluation, and analysis of information related to gangs and security threat group activity, criminal and/or disruptive behaviors, while also attempting to anticipate, prevent, and monitor any such behavior or activities. It utilizes investigative and evaluation techniques to show methods and trends, while continually evaluating the effectiveness of strategic, operational and tactical intelligence from both proactive and reactive perspectives. It maintains liaison with the regional leadership, correctional facilities, probation & parole districts, supervisors and the intelligence operatives of law enforcement and criminal justice agencies -- Federal, State and local. It also provides training presentations, training guidance to not only the Department but outside stakeholders.

Travel to other facilities and district offices primarily in the Western Region, however can be called to other regional facilities and district offices statewide if needed.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of intelligence-gathering methods and investigative techniques, particularly those related to gangs and other security threat groups such as hate groups, terrorists, and cults. Strong analytical skills are essential, including the ability to collect, evaluate, and interpret complex information to identify trends and recommend appropriate actions. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work within a team, plan, and assess the effectiveness of intelligence operations. Effective communication skills—both oral and written—are required, along with the ability to interact professionally with diverse groups and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, VA CORIS Gang Module and Outlook is necessary. Candidates must be eligible to obtain DCJS General Instructor Certification within 12 months of employment.

Additional Considerations

Knowledge of agency policies and procedures. Working knowledge of Corrections Information System (VACORIS). Bilingual Communicate efficiently across the diverse subculture of gangs.
