Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, Division of Marketing and Development is seeking a dynamic marketing and business development professional to serve as Program Manager in the Office of Domestic Marketing. The selected individual will plan, develop and implement an integrated marketing program to develop the agricultural economy of Virginia by providing sales and marketing services support for producers of food, agricultural and forestry products. The position provides strategic business development and marketing guidance and consultative services to Virginia agribusiness producers to proactively drive economic sustainability and growth. Efforts will concentrate on domestic U.S. markets and high-volume sales, but will also actively support, complement and coordinate with international marketing efforts to create effective hemispheric and global sales and marketing representation. The selected individual will oversee the team and staff in the implementation of the domestic marketing plan. Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth’s telework policy. Progressively responsible leadership and program management experience in an agricultural, sales or marketing environment involving staff, program and budget oversight and includes performance and discipline and in implementing marketing, sales, promotional or related activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of agricultural marketing practices and principles; of general management, supervisory and budgetary practices and techniques. Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Proficiency using standard business computer programs and web-based and social media applications. Demonstrated ability to analyze current and future industry trends and to adapt current practices to meet and anticipate industry change; to develop, implement and manage marketing activities; to supervise the work of others; to establish and maintain effective business relationships; and to oversee the program budget. H.S Diploma/GED required. Must have and maintain a valid Drivers' License with a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety.
Additional Considerations
A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities to include knowledge of Marketing, Business Administration, Economics, Advertising, Public Administration or related field. Leadership and program management experience in an agricultural, sales or marketing environment involving staff, program and budget oversight and includes performance and discipline and in implementing marketing, sales, promotional or related activities.
