Job Duties

We are seeking to fill multiple positions in our Roanoke office (starting salary $54,106).

The Disability Determination Services Division of the Virginia Department for Aging & Rehabilitative Services provides accurate, timely, and cost-effective evaluations of medical and vocational evidence related to claims filed by Virginians for Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability Insurance, and Medicaid benefits under the Social Security Act.

Completion of an onboarding training program is required before maintaining a caseload.
Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Completes duties and/or projects as needed or directed by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Experience in gathering, reviewing, and analyzing large volumes of information and records to reach well supported decisions based on established policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Abilities/Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage a caseload. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to conduct ongoing phone communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with PCs and position related software applications.
  • Ability to multitask and meet multiple established deadlines.

Additional Considerations:

  • Training and/or experience in an office, administrative, or case review environment. 
  • Training and/or experience analyzing and interpreting complex policies, procedures, or regulations.
  • Training and/or experience effectively communicating critical information and engaging in ongoing phone communication with a wide range of stakeholders.

Special Instructions:

  • Must pass HSPD 12 federal credentialing. 
  • This position is designated as sensitive under Va. Code § 2.2 1201.1.
  • The Social Security Administration (SSA) will conduct a fingerprint based criminal history check and credentialing process for all final candidates. All job offers are contingent upon successfully passing the required SSA background process.
