Job Duties:
Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) is seeking a Lead Wage Driver. Serves as lead worker in the Transportation Department, coordinating schedules, meeting with campus staff, assigning tasks to employees based on priority, and overseeing daily operations in the Supervisor’s absence.
This position will drive passenger vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, multi passenger vans, and 14 passengers non CDL buses. The role is responsible for the safe transport of consumers, staff, and materials in both urban and rural areas, during daylight hours, and in all weather conditions. Driving assignments may vary from short local trips to full day travel, and the vehicle driven may change frequently. This position completes initial and ongoing agency required training and performs other duties as assigned, including mandatory training required by the agency, department, and the Department of Human Resource Management.
Essential Duties:
• Ensure safe transport of consumers, staff, and goods/materials.
• Navigate to required locations using GPS, navigation systems, smartphone technology, written directions, or road maps. Addresses may be in urban, rural, or remote areas.
• Fuel vehicles, assist with vehicle maintenance and cleaning schedules, and provide fuel receipts and mileage logs for state recordkeeping.
• Provide General Services support at WWRC and for DARS as required/requested in all areas of General Services and/or supporting WWRC/DARS operations.
The average work week varies but is approximately 25 hours. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
This position requires applicants to provide a copy of their driving record.
Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated skills in safely operating passenger vehicles including sedans, SUVs, and multi-passenger vans (Must be capable of driving for multiple hours on all types of roads and highways, including interstate highways, in all types of weather and lighting conditions).
Demonstrated ability to provide detailed information to staff regarding environmental conditions at the consumer’s home, place of work/training, and other environments encountered while performing duties.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally through various forms of communication (phone, email, and radio). Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and plan work; demonstrated skills using standard office equipment such as fax machines and copiers.
Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse customer base, office, and agency groups. Complete all assigned duties in supporting agency operations and embrace flexibility in completing any/all assigned work. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of personally identifiable information and other confidential information regarding agency consumers and agency staff. Ability to use Computer Systems such as Microsoft.
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required for Entry into Position:
Must have valid Virginia driver’s license; Driver’s license must be free of points for moving offences. No recent history of major driving offences such as DUI or reckless driving.
Demonstrated knowledge to be able to locate addresses over a large geographical area, both urban and rural, using roadmaps, GPS, smartphone, internet and written directions.

Training and experience in driving students.
CDL.
