Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Program Support Technician (PST) for the Office of Communications and Utilization and Marketing program. Based in the agency’s Headquarters in Charlottesville, this position will report to the Director of Communications and provide administrative and office support to both the Communications and Utilization and Marketing teams.

The Office of Communications engages with key audiences through internal and external communications, media relations, publications, digital assets, social media, education, and crisis communications. The Communications team ensures information is clear, consistent and aligned with the DOF mission to protect and develop healthy, sustainable forest resources for Virginians.

DOF’s Utilization and Marketing program helps Virginia maintain a prosperous forest products industry and assists with creating markets and benefits for forest landowners. By developing existing markets and identifying emerging opportunities, DOF supports forest industry and rural economies.

Duties of the PST include, but are not limited to:
• Maintain a working knowledge of agency activities, resources, services, information and updates.

• Work with appropriate agency topic experts to respond to public requests through the agency's main information email box: publicinfo@DOF.Virginia.gov.

• Perform general administrative support functions (coordinate incoming requests for information, staff questions and needs, employee travel arrangements and reimbursements, procurement, eVA orders, invoices and fiscal support).

• Work with the Utilization and Marketing Manager on developing progress reporting and scheduling of long-term projects.

• Assist in maintaining current information for agency databases.

• Work with vendors to resolve order/product issues. Assist with event planning, implementation and support. Maintain the master list of all agency publications; current and archived.

• Maintain publication archive in accordance with the requirements of the Library of Virginia (LVA).

• Maintain active publication storage and facilitate distribution.

• Maintain and monitor publication inventory. Maintain Communications storage areas in an organized and accessible manner.

• Manage exhibits, AV equipment and event materials used by program staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communications skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills.

• Customer service skills.

• Attention to detail: organized, handling expense reports, updating databases, and managing documents.

• Experience with using a PC and proficiency in Microsoft Office (primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Capacity to handle confidential information, represent DOF professionally and communicate clearly across all levels of the agency.

• Strong teamwork skills for collaborating, developing new processes, and maintaining open lines of communication with colleagues.

• Valid driver's license

Additional Considerations

• Writing experience writing for multiple audiences a plus.

• Commonwealth of Virginia state agency experience a plus.
