Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking an Information Security Analyst Student Intern to support the agency’s Information Security Program. The intern will assist the Information Security Officer (ISO) and Information Systems staff with security compliance, risk management, vulnerability management, and security documentation activities that support the protection of Commonwealth and citizen data.
WORK HOURS: The students’ class schedule should permit them to be able to work between 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM with additional hours during school breaks. While there is some flexibility with the work schedule, a standard schedule will be set. The internship is a year-round position and will end no later than 6 months following graduation or when the individual is no longer a student.
LOCATION & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The office is in Capitol Square, Downtown Richmond. This position is part-time with no benefits & is limited to working an average of 29 hours per week or less with a max of 1500 hours per year. Final candidate must successfully complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled in an information technology or computer related program. Demonstrated ability to provide customer service or support to customers and working in a team environment. Familiarity with basic computer hardware and software concepts, Microsoft Office applications, and general cybersecurity principles. Strong organizational, time management, problem solving and multitasking skills. Must have attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to complete assignments on time. Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude and work harmoniously with others. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability
to understand technical information and relay information to others in an effective manner.
Additional Considerations
A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities to include coursework or basic exposure to cybersecurity, risk management, or information security concepts, and general familiarity with networking, operating systems, or cybersecurity frameworks through academic study.
