Job Duties
The Psychology Associate II serves as an integral member of interdisciplinary treatment teams, representing the Psychology Department and coordinating assigned units while providing expert behavioral consultation and support in the development and monitoring of behavioral and restrictive interventions. The position conducts psychological assessments within established areas of competency and completes Analysis of Risk Reports under appropriate supervision. Responsibilities include delivering individual and group therapeutic services, providing competency restoration interventions, facilitating forensic education for NGRI acquittees, and responding to patient crises and debriefing staff. The role also provides regular staff in‑service education, participates in hospital committees, and conducts monthly quality assurance peer reviews. The incumbent engages in required professional development activities, including mandated trainings and weekly DBHDS Forensic Seminars.
A condition of employment for this position is that the Psychologist Associate II must be Licensed by the Virginia Board of Psychology within 12 months of hire.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of principles and methods of psychological service delivery including psychological assessments, diagnostic evaluations, psychotherapy, behavioral programming/research and treatment modalities, and program designs and evaluation.
Demonstrated ability to conduct psychotherapy in the treatment of patients with emotional/behavioral dysfunctions. Demonstrated ability to develop and administer psychological treatment.
Once licensed, qualified and able to conduct Commissioner-appointed forensic evaluations at various State facilities.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with other disciplines, patients, families and outside agencies.
Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university or school of psychology.
Considerable professional level clinical experience with at least some autonomous functioning in a mental health setting with a broad program of psychological treatment and interdisciplinary functioning.
Competence with personality, intellectual, and emotional assessment techniques.
Familiarity with neuropsychological assessment techniques and with a variety of treatment modalities.
Additional Considerations
Previous experience in an adult or geriatric inpatient behavioral health setting.
Strong experience in behavioral treatment preferred.
Licensed Clinical Psychologist preferred.
