Job Duties
The Science Museum of Virginia is looking for a dynamic Senior Human Resources Generalist to play a key role in shaping an exceptional employee experience across our three unique locations.
In this role, you’ll partner closely with the HR Director to deliver comprehensive, end-to-end HR support serving as a trusted advisor to employees and managers alike. This role manages assigned full-cycle activities for assigned requisitions from vacancy to hire and supports employees and managers with benefits, leave of absence, performance management, and offboarding to ensure a consistent, compliant, and positive employee experience.
Working independently and as part of a team, this position resolves HR issues, escalates complex or sensitive matters with recommendations to the HR Director, and helps balance strategic priorities with day-to-day operational needs. The role also requires periodic travel between sites (Science Museum, Danville and Science Center) to support business operations and employee engagement.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of all functional areas of human resource management, principles and practices. The candidate should have extensive experience in key HR areas such as talent management, benefits and leave administration, performance management and offboarding. Demonstrated experience in full-cycle recruitment across a variety of positions, including wage, salary and leadership roles, and a comprehensive understanding of the recruitment process. A strong working knowledge of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Virginia Sickness and Disability Program (VSDP), and Workers’ Compensation is essential.
Able to interpret and apply state HR policies, rules, and regulations accurately and effectively. A high degree of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information is critical. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, along with the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and with other state agencies. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is important, as is the capacity to partner with senior leadership. Experience leading and training others is a plus.
Candidates should possess exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform well in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Workspace, and presentation software. The role also requires periodic travel between sites (Science Museum, Danville and Science Center) to support business operations and employee engagement.
