Job Duties

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a residential, two-year liberal arts transfer institution dedicated to launching students toward success at highly ranked colleges and universities. Often described as a hidden gem just beyond the Tri-Cities region, RBC features a stunning 750+ acre rural campus with protected wetlands, peaceful forests, and the Commonwealth’s oldest and largest pecan grove—a truly unique setting to live, work, and compete.

RBC is excited to invite applications for a dynamic, innovative, and motivated leader to serve as the inaugural Head Men’s Volleyball Coach. This is a rare opportunity to build a nationally competitive NJCAA men’s volleyball program from the ground up and shape the future of a new program at an institution with a strong championship tradition. The Head Coach will provide leadership and vision for all facets of the men’s volleyball program (Indoor and Beach), including recruiting and developing the first roster in program history. The successful candidate will foster a culture of competitive excellence, academic achievement, and personal growth while upholding the mission and values of Richard Bland College.

Over the past four seasons, Richard Bland Volleyball has earned one Indoor National Championship, one Beach National Runner-Up finish, and consistent Top 20 national rankings. We seek a Head Coach who is eager to carry forward this championship standard and establish similar success for the men’s program.

This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics and plays a vital role in the education, development, and well-being of student-athletes—both on and off the court.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Establish and lead all aspects of the men’s volleyball program, including vision, culture, and standards
• Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans for competitive success
• Recruit, evaluate, and enroll 14+ qualified student-athletes annually in compliance with NJCAA and institutional standards
• Foster a positive, disciplined, and student-centered team environment
• Plan and conduct practices, conditioning sessions, and competitive events
• Teach and develop fundamental and advanced volleyball skills
• Support academic success, personal development, and overall well-being of student-athletes
• Organize competitive schedules in collaboration with the athletic department
• Manage game-day operations, travel, scouting, and match preparation
• Oversee and manage program budget responsibly
• Ensure full compliance with NJCAA, Region 10, and institutional policies
• Maintain accurate records and complete required reporting
• Promote the program through community engagement, camps, and clinics
• Collaborate with campus partners and support department-wide initiatives
• Represent Richard Bland College with professionalism, integrity, and sportsmanship

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
• Considerable of coaching experience (High School, Club or College) or playing experience as a collegiate athlete
• Experience with recruitment of student athletes
• Strong oral and written skills, excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, and adequate computer skills
• Valid driver’s license

Additional Considerations

• NJCAA or collegiate coaching experience
• Demonstrated success as a volleyball coach at the NJCAA, NAIA, or NCAA level
