Job Duties

The Richmond City Health District of the Virginia Department of Health is looking for an experienced certified nurse practitioner to join their team. The nurse practitioner will provide patient care across multiple public health programs by assessing patients, managing tests, prescribing within scope, educating patients, and coordinating referrals. Other responsibilities involve documenting all care accurately, supporting clinic and program improvements, assisting with staff training, and participating in community outreach events. This clinical environment is supportive and conducive to knowledge sharing and collaboration. Great work/life balance.

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Practitioner in Virginia required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of nursing practice and health principles, physical examination techniques and findings both normal and pathological, disease states, diagnostic testing and limits of testing, and pharmacology.
• Ability to perform and interpret physical assessments, obtain medical history, perform and/or interpret diagnostic testing, formulate differential diagnoses and plan of care and provide health education to clients.
• Ability to develop patient management plans; excellent clinical judgement with ability to know the limits of practice and when to seek consultation.
• Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with staff, patients and the public; ability to participate in educational and professional programs.
• CPR/BLS certification

Additional Considerations

Prior public health or community health with significant clinical experience in STI, family planning, pediatrics and primary care preferred.
