Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as Customer Service Center Assistant Manager at the Hopewell Customer Service Center. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring the efficient and customer-focused delivery of DMV programs and services.

The Assistant Manager assists the CSC Manager and directly supervises staff in the delivery of a full range of DMV services including driver licensing, vehicle registration and titling, tax collection, dealer services, and motor carrier services. All programs are administered in strict accordance with statutory and administrative requirements.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assist the CSC Manager in the day-to-day coordination and supervision of DMV programs and services at the W. Henrico Customer Service Center.
• Supervise and lead front-line staff in the direct delivery of driver, dealer, motor carrier, vehicle registration and titling, tax collection, and related DMV services.
• Assume full duties and responsibilities of the CSC Manager in his/her absence.
• Oversee human resource functions including scheduling, performance management, coaching, and staff development.
• Manage facility operations to ensure a safe, welcoming, and compliant service environment.
• Monitor financial operations and ensure accurate processing and reconciliation of all transactions.
• Maintain the safety and security of DMV employees, assets, and confidential information.
• Ensure all services are delivered in a customer-focused manner, consistent with DMV’s service excellence standards.
• Enforce compliance with the Motor Vehicle Code of Virginia, DMV policies, procedures, rules and regulations, the Privacy Protection Act, and the Freedom of Information Act.

Minimum Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of DMV policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, including performance evaluation, conflict resolution, and staff development.
• Ability to analyze workflows, identify inefficiencies, and implement operational improvements.
• Proficiency in customer service principles, ensuring professionalism and accuracy in interactions.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with staff, customers, and stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address complex issues and ensure compliance.

Additional Considerations

• Advanced knowledge of project management principles and techniques.
• Familiarity with legislative and regulatory changes impacting DMV operations.
• Experience in developing training programs and fostering professional growth.

o Security Clearances: A criminal background check is required to ensure the integrity and security of DMV operations. The Assistant Manager must handle sensitive information with confidentiality and adhere to DMV security policies.

• Licensing and Certifications: The Assistant Manager must be 21 years of age to administer road examinations.
