Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring! Join us in preserving what people care about most - access to the outdoors, natural habitats, open spaces, clean water, and safe infrastructure. Grayson Highlands is accepting applications for an Office Manager.

Office Managers manage the administrative and financial functions to ensure continuity of park operations. In this position, you will:

  • Oversee all financial operations, including budget development and monitoring, accounts payable/receivable, revenue collection and deposit, payroll processing, and compliance with Division and state cash management procedures.
  • Manage procurement and inventory for park goods, services, and office supplies using the Division’s eVA and Cardinal Procurement platforms, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Coordinate all human resource functions for wage employees, including onboarding, scheduling, training, supervision, payroll certification, and end-of-season separation paperwork.
  • Maintain and manage administrative records, project tracking, reporting, and correspondence in accordance with agency and state requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the park and central administrative offices, ensuring clear communication and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Provide customer service and information to the public, coordinate reservations and special use permits, and manage park-run concessions, including point-of-sale operations and merchandise inventory.
  • Develop and implement administrative standards, objectives, and procedures aligned with park priorities, and participate in required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as needed.
  • Supervise and implement training for office and contact station wage employees and coordinate schedules for the same.
  • Work with a high degree of independence daily with overall supervision from the Park Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in a customer service and/or public relations environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Cash management, merchandise, and/or retail sales experience.
  • Experience with procurement, contracts, bookkeeping, budget management, and records retention.
  • Supervisory experience to include training and performance management.
  • Familiarity with retail practices to include merchandise selection, product presentation, sales, and inventory management.
  • Familiarity with a variety of office equipment and systems such as computers, Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, Publisher), Canva, printers, copiers, and calculators.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience working in state/local government or a similar environment.
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, supervising staff, and managing related administrative processes, including scheduling, timesheets, payroll, and hiring documentation.
  • Familiarity with state accounting procedures, procurement of goods, and financial systems.
  • Familiarity with facility and asset management practices and software.
