Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a CDL Support Technician. This position supports DMV’s compliance with federal and state regulations for driver licensing and CDL programs. This role is responsible for providing customer support by managing driver history records, processing medical certifications, military skills test waivers, and handling CDL disqualifications or cancellations. The technician conducts research to resolve discrepancies in driver records and ensures participation in national programs like CDLIS and NDR. By maintaining accurate records, the technician contributes to highway safety and regulatory compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

•Strong research and analytical skills to resolve discrepancies in records
•Effective verbal and written communication for collaborating with internal teams, external agencies, and stakeholders
•Ability to work independently, apply regulations, and make decisions based on policies and federal guidelines
•Attention to detail and accuracy in managing records while handling multiple tasks
•Proficiency in Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting
•Experience providing customer service and working with internal teams and federal agencies to resolve complex record issues and ensure compliance
•Experience collaborating with teams to manage records and maintain operational consistency
•Experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders to resolve inquiries and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
•Experience handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment

Additional Considerations

•Knowledge of CDL regulations, including FMCSR and REAL ID requirements
•Proficiency in DMV systems (CSS, CDLIS, NDR, SPEXS) for managing and updating records
