The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Food Service Worker to provide healthy, safe and sanitary meals to the students and staff of the school, with friendly customer service. This is an 11-month position (paid over 12 months) with full state benefits. Working hours are 5:30am – 2:00pm, Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities include:
• Assisting with the preparation and serving of meals
• Cleaning the dining and kitchen areas
• Washing dishes
• Receiving food orders
• Putting stock in correct storage places
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to follow oral and written instruction
Proficiency level of Novice in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years
Ability to lift 35-50 pounds
Ability to perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, bending and climbing.
Ability to tolerate varied temperatures
Additional Considerations
Prefer general knowledge in meal service
Prefer general knowledge in food preparation
Prefer knowledge in food equipment and cleaning supplies
