Job Duties
The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center is seeking applicants for a part-time Event Support Technician role in our Information Technology Department. This position provides routine daily AV support to employees, faculty, staff, students, and building clients, including support for classroom, conference, and event-related computer and audio/visual technology. The successful candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes days, nights, and weekends.
Core responsibilities for the position include: Setting up and configuring audiovisual equipment in diverse settings such as meeting rooms, classrooms, and event spaces. This entails ensuring the proper functioning of projectors, screens, speakers, microphones, and video conferencing systems to meet the specific requirements of each event or session. Assist with installing new AV equipment according to provided specifications, following meticulous procedures for mounting projectors, speakers, and screens securely, routing cables neatly, and connecting equipment to appropriate power sources and control systems. Responding promptly to service requests and troubleshooting calls, providing technical assistance and guidance to users on operating AV equipment effectively, including offering basic troubleshooting steps and usage instructions.
Minimum Qualifications
•Considerable experience with computers and audio-visual equipment.
Additional Considerations
•Skilled in audio-visual equipment setup, troubleshooting, help desk support, and system integration, with strong interpersonal abilities that support positive client interactions and dependable service.
