Job Duties
Utilizing knowledge base and experience, provides population specific quality nursing care to adult and geriatric psychiatric patients through the nursing process in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. Utilizes recovery principles in all aspects of this leadership role. Directly supervises, evaluates, documents and provides guidance to improve performance of nursing staff. Develops/implements strategies to facilitate effective communication among three shifts. Collaborates with Charge Nurses on off shifts, Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Supervisors and other departments to manage nursing care and milieu on assigned unit. Drive continuous quality improvement, ensuring the highest standards of safety, trauma-informed care, and regulatory compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
Registered Nursing licensure or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia required
Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric disorders, physical, psychological and social needs of the psychiatric patient.
Skills to supervise, evaluate and counsel nursing employees; skills in delegating nursing activities; facilitate others in providing supervision and evaluation; knowledge of program and milieu development.
Demonstrates competency as defined on Competency Assessment.
Additional Considerations
BSN highly desirable
Demonstrated experience in nursing leadership role with supervision and evaluation of personnel performance, competency, and interface with physicians and other ancillary staff preferred
Experience in mental health inpatient psychiatric or geriatric/long term care setting preferred
