The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 32 local health districts. These entities work together to promote healthy lifestyle choices that can combat chronic disease, educate the public about emergency preparedness and threats to their health, and track disease outbreaks in Virginia.
As part of the Virginia Department of Health, the Hampton, and Peninsula Health Districts (HPHD) are two health districts serving the residents of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and the Counties of James City, and Yorktown.

The HR Assistant performs technical administrative HR support requiring knowledge and application of applicable policy and procedures. Characteristic activities include: assisting with recruitment and staffing efforts, new employee orientation, data entry, records maintenance and support of payroll and benefits processes. The incumbent assists with benefits orientation processes & coordinates resolution of related inquiries; provides guidance to staff on routine HR matters (i.e. leave, benefits, and recruitment). Provides support for recruitment and screening efforts and prepares and maintains associated files and documents. May post approved recruitment ads.

Minimum Qualifications
• General knowledge of human resource programs, regulations, and guidelines
• Ability and experience applying applicable policies and procedures
• Ability to prepare, process, track and file personnel records
• Knowledge and experience with administrative and clerical processes and procedures
• Strong computer, oral and written communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
Additional Considerations
• Training in Human Resources or related field
• Experience working in a Human Resources office for a large complex agency
• Experience with ServiceNow and PageUp
