Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a Senior Mail Services Technician for our Mail Services Work Unit. Mail Services manages incoming and outgoing correspondence, including inserting, tipping, and distribution. The Senior Mail Services Technician supports the DMV's mailing and distribution operations by mentoring Mail Services Technicians, aiding in training, addressing operational challenges, and recommending improvements. Reporting directly to the Mail Services Manager, this role ensures the accurate and efficient handling of mail processes, compliance with postal regulations, and operational alignment with agency objectives.

Core Responsibilities Include:
• Monitoring workflow to ensure maximum production, completeness, and accuracy
• Resolving workflow and quality problems and assisting staff with questions
• Maintaining supplies needed and minor repairs on mailing machines
• Preparing Mail Services production statistical reports on a daily basis
• Utilizing the VOTI X-ray security screening system on all incoming mail to ensure all DMV employees safety throughout the building
• Operating Pitney Bowes Connect 3000 mailing machines
• Regularly placing orders for operations supplies
• Scanning, processing, and distributing mail

Minimum Qualifications

•Experience with operating a Pitney Bowes Connect 3000 mailing machine
•Experience in U.S Postal Service and UPS mail regulations
•Experience with mail piece scanning and Pitney Bowes computer scanning program
•Experience with maintaining and operating U.S Postal Service Sendpro and/or UPS Worldship software
• Demonstrated experience mentoring staff in a mail services environment, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance
•Must have the ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 60 lbs
• Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and external agencies
• Basic computer skills for preparing reports and for incoming and outgoing email correspondence
• A valid driver’s license for occasional mail pick-up and delivery

Additional Considerations

•Experience working in state government mail services is preferred
•Extensive knowledge of the mailing and shipping industry
