Job Duties:

Telework is limited in accordance with the Commonwealth’s telework policy. This is a wage (part‑time) position that will work an average of 20 hours per week and cannot exceed 1500 hours during the employment year. This position does not include health insurance, retirement, or leave benefits.

The Division for Aging Services within the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, in collaboration with community partners, provides and advocates for resources and services that improve the lives of older Virginians to live independently longer and participate fully in their communities. The Division for Aging Services provides leadership to the COV to assure Virginia is the best place in America for individuals to live, work, raise a family, and age.

We are seeking a Dementia Services Specialist (Wage) to provide essential support to the Dementia Services Director. The DSS carries significant responsibility for the routine, operational, and logistical functions that make it possible for Dementia Services to meet its statutory obligations and statewide commitments.

Duties include but are not limited to:

State Plan Implementation and Commission Support:

  • Assist the Dementia Services Director with the implementation, evaluation and tracking of the Dementia State Plan. Assist with the planning and coordination of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) Commission activities including workgroup and committee scheduling and minutes.


Program and Project Support:

  • Support the Director with project and program development, management, and evaluation, including assisting with the preparation of required reporting.


Community Outreach and Education:

  • Assist the Director with outreach and community education on ADRD and related issues.


Information and Referral Services:

  • Assist with information and referrals for consumers on issues related to ADRD.


Grant Evaluation and Reporting:

  • Assist the Dementia Services Director with evaluating and measuring grant outcomes, providing input into grant reporting.


Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Completes duties and/or projects as needed or as directed by the supervisor.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience or training in public health, social work, psychology, or related field.


Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of issues related to Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders related to the responsibilities of this position. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Google Workplace and Zoom.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional and respectful manner with the public and coworkers in person, by telephone, electronically, and in writing.

Additional Considerations:

  • Some experience with community outreach programs and making referrals. 
  • Some working knowledge of grant evaluations and reporting.
