Job Duties

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a force of dedicated volunteers who stand ready to support their communities in the event of a public health emergency. The MRC has medical and non-medical community members who volunteer their skills, expertise and time to support ongoing public health initiatives and health emergencies throughout the district.
The position of the MRC Unit Coordinator is mission critical as it provides program oversight to the Greater Richmond MRC Unit. This position coordinates volunteers, work unit staff, district leadership, and with other VDH staff, agencies, and community members. The Greater Richmond MRC Unit is shared across multiple localities and 2 health districts, Chickahominy and Henrico and Richmond HDs. This position serves as a liaison between operations, administration, and other staff and volunteers to assure optimum use of resources. This position helps to prepare reports for grant purposes and shares these with state and national offices. They represent the MRC at local and regional planning and coalition meetings. The coordinator manages and monitors grants applications and disbursement/deliverables to assure funds and services are available to support program commitments.
The Greater Richmond Medical Reserve Corps serves the Health Districts of Richmond, Henrico, and Chickahominy. Our volunteers and staff work together to make our communities prepared, stronger, and healthier!
This position is physically located within the Henrico Health District but will be expected to travel as needed to Richmond City and Chickahominy Health Districts.
This is a restricted position which is funded by federal grants for a year period ending June 2027. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-general funds.

Minimum Qualifications
• Experience in coordinating and managing volunteers and community services
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation/public speaking skills
• Experience and ability to provide training to others
• Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse constituency
• Knowledge and experience in use of computers and computer applications; skilled in Internet, email and Microsoft Office
Additional Considerations
• Prior public health and/or outreach experience preferred,
• Prior emergency response/management experience preferred.
• Knowledge or experience with the Medical Reserve Corps
• Knowledge of and experience in planning and policy development and implementation, program evaluation and coalition building
• Willing/able to work evenings and weekends for volunteer training and events and be on call to respond to emergencies, as needed
