The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is seeking a Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator to work in the Public Communications and Marketing Office.
The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is seeking a Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator to join the Public Communications and Marketing Office in a temporary role through April 2027. This position plans, develops, performs, monitors and evaluates public relations and marketing activities that increase public understanding and support for the Virginia State Parks – Western Region.
The position will collaborate with the Public Communications and Marketing Office team and DCR stakeholders to ensure that all marketing activities support agency priorities. This position may telework but will be expected to be in the office two days a week at the DCR headquarters in downtown Richmond. Ability to travel is not required.
The public relations and marketing activities include:
- Writing marketing copy, blog posts and news releases
- Managing Virginia State Park fliers
- Drafting social media messaging
- Developing and implementing communication plans
This is a temporary assignment through April 2027. Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.) and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
DCR provides the opportunity for wage employees to participate in tax-deferred compensation programs, supplemental disability insurance, and supplemental retirement accounts made available through the Commonwealth’s provider network at the employee’s expense.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in an interactive communications environment.
- Experience managing communications-related projects.
- Current and/or prior experience working in marketing, advertising, communications or related field.
- Ability to create, manage and execute effective marketing and communications strategies, including social media.
- Demonstrated ability to write and edit talking points, presentations, ad copy, website copy, print materials and news releases.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively and constructively with supervisor, coworkers and external customers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to participate in moderate outdoor recreation related activities.
